What Base64 is
Base64 is an encoding format that represents bytes using ASCII characters. It is common in email MIME parts, JSON payloads, data URLs, certificates, and API examples because it moves binary-looking data through text-only channels. It is not encryption. Anyone can decode it.
How to use this tool

Padding, URL-safe Base64 and UTF-8
Standard Base64 often ends with = padding. URL-safe Base64 replaces + and / with - and _, which is why JWT segments look slightly different from ordinary Base64. This decoder accepts URL-safe characters, but it expects the decoded bytes to be valid UTF-8 text. Binary files may decode into unreadable output.
Security considerations
Because Base64 looks opaque, people sometimes treat it as protection. It is not. API credentials, bearer tokens, private keys and session cookies remain sensitive after encoding. Use this tool for inspection and formatting, not for hiding secrets.
Browser-only processing

Privacy note
